Evernden beaten

NZPA-AAP Sydney A West German Davis Cup player, Carl-Uwe Steeb, is through to the second round of the Swan Premium Australian Indoor tennis championship at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Steeb, who is in the West German team to play Sweden in the Davis Cup final in December, defeated New Zealand’s Kelly Evernden in three sets, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2, 6-4. The 21-year-old is coached by the 1983 Wimbledon finalist, Chris Lewis, another Kiwi who is a close friend of Evernden.
