Film picketed

PA Auckland Patrons who had walked past a loud contingent of protestors to see the controversial film “The Last Temptation of Christ,” had to leave the cinema half an hour later because of a false fire alarm. The Fire Service was called to the Mid City cinema complex about 8.30 p.m. The films showing there resumed soon

after. About 30 protesters spent the day and evening outside the cinema holding placards, singing and handing out pamphlets comparing what they considered to be false portrayals of Christ’s life in the film to the biblical version. The cinema manager would not say how many people had seen the film on its first day of screening.
