School library mooted
The Akaroa County Council is considering the establishment of a community library at the Akaroa Area School. The chairman of the library services steering committee, Mrs Robyn Grigg, said the Coronation Library in Akaroa had served admirably.
The head of the Akaroa Area School, Mrs Jan McGoldrick, said the school had the space and facilities to house a community library. The council has approved a grant of up to $5OOO towards the library dependent on the public supporting the project.
The future of the Coronation Library has yet to be decided. A public meeting to gauge support for the proposal will be held at the Gaiety Hall, Akaroa, on October 27 and will be attended by representatives of the Akaroa County Council, the National Library Service, the Canterbury Education Board and the Akaroa Area School.
