Chief Executive Tasman District Council New Authority, Richmond based The Tasman District Council, which comes into existence on 1 April 1989, represents the new wave of local government management in New Zealand. Formed by the amalgamation of the Richmond, Motueka and Waimea Councils, the Council will have a population of approximately 30,000 covering a mixed urban/rural area, including the towns of Richmond and Motueka. It will have a progressive organisation structure incorporating a Chief Executive, supported by four senior functional managers and one area manager, with clear outlines of responsibility and delegated authority for decision making and expenditure approval. The challenges facing the appointee will be: » implementation of the new structures; ® appointment of the senior team; ° integration of three fully-staffed organisations into a cohesive and stream lined unit; to enable the new organisation to function effectively and efficiently from April. We clearly seek applications from senior executives with multi-disciplinary experience gained in either the local government or private (these would be expressly welcomed) sector. Applicants should possess a record of tertiary achievement (discipline flexible) and be in the 40 to 50 year age bracket. The personal and leadership qualities should be self evident.
