Drought relief
A drought relief package is to be considered by Federated Farmers’ national executive next week. The four presidents of North Canterbury, MidCanterbury, South Canterbury and North Otago Federated Farmers agreed on Wednesday to a series of possible forms of help for farmers hit by drought in their areas.
The president of North Canterbury Federated Farmers, Mr Ness Wright, said details of the package could not be released until it had been approved by the national executive. The package also included strategies on rural debt, he said. If approved, the proposals would be put to the Government for its consideration.
