Reefton Hospital
Sir,—Our Reefton Hospital is under threat of being closed to save SI.SM. On the same day as our “protest drive” to Greymouth I was informed by pamphlet in a campaign that is costing $2.5M that I will now receive, through the tax package, 19c extra a week in my pay. This extra money I am being encouraged to save for my retirement. The savings bank at Reefton will charge me 50c a week to have an account under $5OO. That would leave me with a debit of 31c. Reefton is 45km from Springs Junction, by the way. Can someone please tell me what on earth is going on? — Yours, etc., MARGARET SEARLE. Springs Junction, October 3, 1988.
