Fragrant garden
Sir,—l am disappointed at the City Council Parks and Recreation Committee for proposing to erect a fragrant garden within the Botanic Gardens. As Abberley Park already has such a garden, surely this would be a waste of good sponsorship. To walk through the gardens on a balmy day picking up individual scents is more fulfilling than an assortment of scents jumbled together. Surely $15,000 would be more wisely spent on the maintenance of existing facilities such as the pot-holed path adjacent to the new highly fragranted herb garden, the potting shed’s state of disrepair, the unfinished information centre, the condensated public noticeboards or the high proportion of trees suffering from moisture stress in the gardens and park. Must every parks committee impose amateur ideals upon the space limitations of the gardens to form monuments to themselves? — Yours, etc. S. MOLLOY. October 3, 1988.
