Rider achieves notable double
PA Tauranga Brendon Sargent recorded a notable double when he rode the winners of both legs of the T.A.B. double at the Whakatane Racing Club’s meeting at Tauranga on Saturday. Sargent was seen in contrasting roles on March Sea in the Whakatane Cup arid on That’s Jack in the New Zealand Breweries Handicap. He took March Sea quickly to the front in the Cup and was never headed, scoring by a half length from Band Leader, with the favourite, Shannon Lad, third. The win was March Sea’s ninth from 55 career starts and it took the Pukekohe gelding’s earnings to $103,555. In the second leg That’s Jack raced mostly in midfield and came with a well sustained run to pip Spring Easy and outsider Vizor in a packed finish. The favourite, Catering King, led from the start but was beaten on the home turn, while Maurine did not have
