Move on daylight time resisted
PA Auckland Dairy farmers could lose up to $2OOO if daylight time is extended by six weeks. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Dr Bassett, wants daylight time to begin four weeks earlier — in October — and end two weeks later. But Auckland Federated Farmers’ subprovincial president and a
dairy farmer, Mr Phil York, said the move could damage the economics of dairy farming. A farmer could not pick which of his cows was in season because of the disruption in pattern and often had to work in the dark during daylight time. This might cost the farm money, he said.
