Aranui High wins series

: The Aranui High School senior boys' basketball team returned recently from Australia with the trans-Tasman schools’ challenge series title to its name. Aranui won all six matches. Six Australian and two New Zealand teams took part, Aranui beating three Australian school sides in section play. In the semifinals, Aranui overcame the other New Zealand team, Birkdale, 60-32, with Ray David contributing 22 points. He scored with seven out of eight from the floor and eight out of 10 from the line. Against the Australian representative, Pennant Hills, Aranui started slowly, but it recovered well to lead at halftime, 40-35. The second half was completely dominated by Aranui which restricted Pennant Hills to 11 points. "Aranui won the final, 75-46. Damon Taylor (26 points) and David (18 points) were outstanding for the Aranui team which is coached: by the former national representative,’ Bert Knops.
