Lancaster Park extends squash lead
Lancaster Park has considerably extended its lead after the latest round of Computerland men’s open grade interclub squash this week. This was so even with one game deferred in the Lancaster Park v. Linwood contest, Michael Penman being away at the national championships. The Park No. 1, Paul Viggers, had played his match the previous week. While Lancaster Park must pick up at least eight points from this contest the previous second-placed side, Burnside, suffered from the absence of both Michael ■ Allred and Barry Gardiner and was whitewashed by Sumner. In the closest contest of the night the wooden spooner, Christchurch Football, triumphed over Christchurch I on a points countback, 110 to 104. A feature was the scintillating form of Football’s Eric Smail who led the well-re-
garded Canterbury selector, Fred Williams, 9-0, 9-0, 6-0, before the Christchurch man fought back to almost take the third game. In women's open grade the front-running Sumner team had its top two players, Justine Marriott and Carolyn Oakley, away at the nationals and its match against Christchurch II has been deferred until next week. Marist collected 10 points against a weakened St Andrew’s side and Lancaster Park I surprised with a similar effort against Christchurch I. Results:— MEN Lancaster Park 8 leads Linwood 0 P.
