Kirwan out
PA Auckland The All Black wing, John Kirwan, has been omitted from the Auckland team for the Ranfurly Shield challenge by Manawatu at Eden Park on Saturday. Kirwan, who strained a hamstring in the 39-12 defeat of North Harbour, is not likely to rejoin the side until the national championship match, and projected shield
game, against Otago on September 24. A doubtful starter on Saturday is the Auckland centre, Joe Stanley. A bruised knee kept him out of the Auckland training. Stanley has been paired with Frank Bunce for the match against Manawatu. Craig Innes, improving with each Auckland appearance, will take Kirwan’s place on the right wing.
The Auckland team is: Lindsay Harris; Craig Innes. Joe Stanley or Frank Bunce, Terry Wright; Bernie McCahili, Grant Fox; Brett Iti; Zinzan Brooke; Alan Whetton, Marty Brooke, Gary Whetton, Michael Jones; front row, Peter Fatialofa, Sean Fitzpa-, trick, Steve McDowell. Reserves: Brett Craies, Paul Norwood, Bunce or Stanley, Rob Cheval, Phil Coffin, Eric Rush.
