Big meat shipment

The biggest meat shipment to leave Lyttelton for Iran left yesterday bound for Bandar Abbas in the Persian Gulf. The manager of Ascot Shipping, Mr Allan Clent, said the ship had about 5000 tonnes of halal-killed lamb on board. The Noor will take 21 days to reach Iran with her frozen cargo. The lamb had come from the Kaiapoi, Islington (now closed), Fairton, Ocean Beach, and Seafield meat plants. The bulk of the meat had been stored in coolstores at Hornby before being loaded at Lyttelton. The whole carcases would probably bei taken by truck to Teheran, said Mr Clent.
