NZPA-Reuter

London

Said Aouita and Steve Cram, whose shared ambition for the Seoul Olympics is to win both the 800 m and 1500 m, underlined the quality of their rivalry at the international athletics meeting at Crystal Palace yesterday. Cram, the former world 1500 m champion who took the silver medal at that distance at the 1984 Olympics, thrilled his home crowd when he won the 2000 m in 4min 44.25, the fastest time ever run in Britain. Earlier Aouita, the brilliant Moroccan who is the Olympic 5000 m champion and holds world records at four distances, carved out another impeccable win over 1000 m, in 2:15.165.
