Prix title to Lawson

NZPA-Reuter

Brno, Czechoslovakia

The American, Eddie Lawson, won the 500 cu cm world motorcycling title yesterday by finishing second on his Yamaha in the Czechoslovak grand prix. The defending champion, Wayne Gardner, of Australia won the race on his Honda, while the American Wayne Rainey, finished third on a Yamaha. With one round remaining, Gardner could equal Lawson’s total of 232 points but the American would take the title by virtue of his six victories, a tally that Gardner can not equal.
