Ellesmere mini sprint team clinches title
The Ellesmere Raceway mini sprint team clinched the 1988 inter-club championship with a decisive victory in the second and final round at Ashburton Speedway last Sunday. Ellesmere held a slender two-point advantage over their Ashburton rivals at'the start of the day’s competition, but good team driving by the
Ellesmere squad and some mechanical misfortune to Ashburton allowed Ellesmere to move clear to a comfortable 49 points to 24 win. Alan Batt was the outstanding driver for Ellesmere, winning both heats, while the Ashburton captain, Ray Hurst, was his team’s top scorer, going a fourth a second placing.
