GOLF Toni Batey, the top player in the Burnside High School golf team, beat Shirley’s Scott Sibley in the first round of “The Press” secondary schools’ golf championship played at Coringa recently.
Batey is one of the few girls in the championship and justified her top placing with the win. Results: A grade: Burnside 21/2, Shirley St Bede’s 4, Hornby 0; Christchurch B.H.S. 21/2, Shirley No. 2 li/ 2 . B grade: Ashburton 2, Christ’s College 2; St Andrew’s College 3, Lincoln 1; Hillmorton 3, St Thomas’s 1. C grade: Ashburton 2, St Bede’s 2; Kaiapoi 2>/2, Christchurch B.H.S. li/ 2 ; Shirley 4, Christ’s College 0. D grade: Burnside 3, Ellesmere 1; St Bede's 3, Rangiora No. 1 1; Christ’s College 2, Rangiora No. 22. Girls: Kaiapoi 3, Christchurch G.H.S. 1.
