Fatality in collision

A woman was seen to slump in the driver’s seat of her car moments before a head-on collision in Memorial Avenue yesterday morning. The woman was found to be dead. She was Isobel Mary Smyth, aged 76, of Yardley Street, Avonhead. A post-mortem examination will be held to find the cause of death. Mrs Smyth was seen to slump before her car

veered into the opposing lane. Her car clipped an oncoming car and then collided head-on with another car carrying two women and a man. The driver, a woman, suffered moderate chest and facial injuries. The others suffered minor injuries. The accident occurred about 11.20 a.m. near the intersection with Ham Road.
