Building permits drop
The number of building permits issued for new dwellings in New Zealand dropped dramatically in July compared with the same month last year. The Statistics Department has noted a 23.5 per cent decrease in permits issued during July this
year compared with July, 1987. In that month, there were 1899 permits for dwellings issued. Last month the total was 1452. The estimated value of last month’s permits was $116.4 million, 20.9 per cent down on 1987’s value of $141.1 million.
