Factory fire
Police and fire-safety officers are investigating a fire in a timber stack at a Phillipstown joinery factory late last evening. The Fire Service sent three engines to the Phillips Street fire soon after 11 p.m. Fire-fighters prevented the blaze from damaging the factory, owned by J. Hooper, Ltd, but a factory next door was damaged by smoke. Front-end loaders and trucks were used to shift hard-fill to help control a rubbish fire at Ashby’s pit in Johns Road last evening. A Fire Service spokesman said early this morning that the fire would take the rest of the night to control.
