Kiwi charged with Townsville murder
PA Sydney A New Zealander associated with a Maori cultural group at the fifth Festival of Pacific Arts at Townsville, Queensland, has been charged with murder. Danny Tangihaere Kingi, of Auckland, appeared in the Townsville District Court yesterday charged with the murder of his wife, Kay Kingi, on or about August 21. He was granted bail and remanded to appear in court again on November 21 for committal proceedings. Under the terms of his
remand, Kingi will be allowed to return to New Zealand but has been given conditions of reporting to the police. The Townsville District Court would not give any details of Kingi’s charge. Members of Te Waka Huia cultural group, of which Mrs Kingi was a member, left Townsville yesterday to return to New Zealand. Another 40 members of the New Zealand delegation will remain in Townsville until the festival ends tomorrow, according to the group’s protocol officer, Ms Veronica Tippet
