Toads on board

PA Darwin A stowaway toad kept the yachtsmen, Peter Blake, and Mike Quilter amused overnight as their trimaran, Steinlager 1, picked a course through the reefs off the North Queensland coastline. •. The New Zealanders reported they were about 290 kilometres north of Cairns yesterday morning after their first night at sea on the third leg of the Around Australia two handed yacht race. It seems the large toad was put aboard by some of the Australian crews during the stopover in Cairns. Early Monday the Steinlarger team evicted one intruder found in the cockpit before they put to sea but Dr Gavin Le Seur, of John West, reckons there could be more. “This is supposed to be a two-handed race; we may have to protest,” quipped the Australian. He said the toads might be poisonous and that the New Zealanders should be careful handling “delicate equipment.”
