Irish Boe trials well at Awapuni
Special correspondent Palmerston North Irish Boe looks certain to go well in the Melva Walker Handicap at Wanganui this week after a good trial at Awapuni yesterday morning. Irish Boe has freshened well since running third in the Levin Winter Cup last month. He is one of 10 acceptors in the Wanganui sprint and his ability in soft ground should stand to him on Saturday. Working on the inside trial, Irish Boe left 1200 m behind with Shagroon in 1:22, the last 600 in 43, with Irish Boe winning the gallop decisively. Shagroon is a likely candidate for the second day of the Wanganui meeting. Amorous, not down to resume for a few weeks year, ran 600 m in 38s, going keenly all the way. She looks set for another profitable season.
Zargrit was timed 1200 m in 1:22.4, the last 600 in 43.4 and Lady’s Secret took 42s for her 600, His Lordship running the same distance in 40s. Wings of Apollo and Jesterman worked over 800 m easily in 59, the final 600 in 44. Sodaflo, engaged at Wanganui, recorded 53 for 800 m, the last 600 in 40s. Miss Challenge, who races at Wanganui, worked well over 1000 m to shade Whizz Kid, the last 600 in 41s. Corfu was timed 600 in 43s and Golden Sealord required . 41s. Amythest makes a return to the racing scene at Wanganui. She has her first start for Patrick Campbell’s stable when she contests the Melva Walker. She moved well over 800 metres in 54, the last 600 in 40.4.
