Precipitate has good trials win

Special correspondent Dunedin Precipitate, now trained by Murray Hamilton at Lauder, had a good win in the main heat at the Forbury Park trials yesterday. Precipitate ran his last 800 m in 58.5 and returned 3:32.7 for the 2600 m, Precipitate started from 20m and he was restrained in fourth place until the 700 m when he joined the pacemaker, Clifton Dal. He went clear at the 300 m and won comfortably by a length from Ankorman, which was not asked for a serious effort. Ankorman started from 50m and he followed up Precipitate. Queen’s Pass ran on for third, a length back. Ankorman will be driven by Robert Cameron in the free-for-all at Addington on Saturday evening. A C 5 pacer, Precipitate was bought out of Denis Nyhan’s Templeton stable in ' May by Maryland trainer, Don Milby. Precipitate will probably race at Forbury Park and Gore in the coming weeks before he is consigned to the United States.

Spangled Sucette returned a smart qualifying effort. The three-year-old filly clocked 3:13.4, a fast time for the first trials of the season. She had blustery cool conditions to contend with and she was clear of the others for most of the way. Spangled Sucette is by Plat du Jour from Lollipop and trained at North Taieri by Ross Payne, who also produced an impressive CO winner yesterday, Royal Rand. Lollipop is by Nardin’s Byrd from Honeybun, by Garrison Hanover. Payne said he would now spell Spangled Sucette. She has also been prominent at workouts in recent weeks. Royal Rand recorded 3:13.5 when he came from behind the pacemaker and stablemate, Skipper’s Pride, to win by a length and a half. Trendy Paula won the other CO heat in 3:18.5 when she held off the fast finishing Raja’s Dream by a length. Pat’s Expense ran on strongly after starting from 30m to win the heat for trotters.
