Education

Sir,—A July 23 report implying support for the board of trustees concept within the Picot Report is a very convenient interpretation of statistics. To say that in 95 per cent of school committees at least one member would be prepared to serve is a misleading use of figures. The article did not outline any reasons why people would be prepared to serve on any proposed board. There are many interested parents who currently serve on school committees, P.T.A. committees or school councils. These folk have a deep interest in their children and their school. It is hoped that the majority of these parents would be interested in serving under the present system or any future system. These people have a social conscience, but it cannot be taken as expressing support for the trustee concept, as readers could be led to believe by the article.—Yours, etc., A. F. FAMILTON.
