Gondola

Sir,—ln my opinion, Peter Yeoman’s comments (August 1), regarding man-made additions to various scenic reserves throughout the country strengthen the argument against further manmade developments along the Port Hills crater rim and skyline scenic reserves. As we already have the Sugarloaf TV tower and the Mount Pleasant radio transmitters, further development will clutter and distract from the remaining naturalness of the area, and particularly Mount Cavendish. The question of access for people of all ages to the reserve is raised. I have witnessed people, both young and old and not so fit, walk the short

distance from the Summit Road to the top of Mount Cavendish. I would also like to take issue with the comment on the use of quieter, more remote, areas for those desiring such a facility. What better opportunity than Mount Cavendish itself, in its present state?—Yours, etc., • TONY BURNETT. August 1, 1988.
