Herbicide payout

PA Wellington New Zealand Vietnam war veterans exposed to the herbicide, Agent Orange, will not receive any immediate payments from settlement money finally due to be paid in the United States today, a spokesman says. A cheque for SUSSOO,OOO ($768,640) would be put into a trust fund for New Zealand veterans. The payment brings seven years of legal battle to an end. An Agent Orange trust board member, Mr Vic Johnson, said most of the money would stay in the United States until exchange rates became more favourable. New Zealand’s slice of the original SUSIBOM (S2BOM) out-of-court settlement in 1984 had been SUS4OO.OOO ($624,000), but that was nowhere near what was needed, said Mr Johnson.
