Dirty windows cut costs
The Canterbury Hospital Board’s continuing budgetary pains has temporarily halted window cleaning at the board’s hospitals. A recently completed window review by the hospitals’ management team has led to the postponement of a cleaning contract as a cost saving measure involving about $lOO,OOO. The board’s finance committee yesterday accepted a recommendation to postpone window cleaning and cancel tenders submitted in November, 1987. “Although most windows are now very dirty, it is recommended that they should be left for a further six months to gain maximum benefit from cost savings,” a support services report said.
The report contained some good news for staff and patients peering through grimy, glass. A new contract could be implemented from January, 1989. .
