Trainer loses sight of eye
Ned Thistoll, a popular trainer from Weedons, has lost the sight of his left eye as a result of a recent accident but the eye itself may still not have to be removed. The veteran trainer was back at the Riccarton training centre on Tuesday though the fear of infection means he cannot go near the horses or stables. Thistoll suffered his injury when a lead rope was flicked back into the eye by a rearing horse. John Dowling, a Riccarton jockey, has had a rather smaller, and more temporary setback, with a broken bone in a hand. The injury could sideline him from race riding for a few weeks.
