Richardson loses

PA London New Zealand’s Julie Richardson lost the final of the Bailey’s Irish Open tennis championship yesterday in a match which went indoors at a vital stage because of rain. The top seed, Lea Antonoplis, of the United States, won the Dublin encounter 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 by taking the tiebreak 7-2. Antonoplis served for the match at 6-5 after moving into an indoor arena but the No. 2 seed from New Zealand broke serve. Britain’s Press Association said Richardson was favourite because of her heavier service but the American woman’s returns were impeccable.
