Chch group a finalist in music contest
One Christchurch group is among the eight finalists in the Westpac School Music Contest. The St Petersburg Trio is the Christchurch representative. Two other groups from the city, chosen for the final, were unable to take part because of their members’ commitment to the New Zealand Youth Orchestra concerts in Australia. They are the Halle Trio and the Monet Brass Quartet. A Hamilton group, the Chedworth Quartet, was also unavailable. The eight finalists were chosen from 241 entries
in local district contests last month. The finalists will play in the Wellington Town Hall on August 13. The winning entry of the original composition section, “Unstarted,” by Natalie Nalden, of Auckland, will be performed by Nalden’s quartet, “Take Four.” The finalists named by the district adjudicator, Donald Maurice, are Spring Chickens, Colla Voce, Melius Quartet and . Laya Trio, Auckland; Czechmates, Napier; Puffers and Blowers Union 1, Wellington; and Fioritura Quartet, Dunedin.
