Murder charge after armed siege

PA Dunedin A man, aged 29, was arrested and charged with murder after an incident in Dunedin on Saturday which culminated in an armed offenders • squad siege on a house in Brockville. The alert started about 7 a.m. when the police and an ambulance were called to a house at 70 Stenhope Crescent, Corstorphine.

A man, aged 27, who had been visiting the house was taken to Dunedin Hospital with stab wounds, but died Detective Senior-Ser-geant Phil McAuslin said a woman in her early 20s had then gone unwillingly with a man to a house at 18 Travis Street, Brockville. The armed offenders squad was called in and the alert ended just be-

fore 10 a.m. after the woman was released uninjured. Detective Senior-Ser-geant McAuslin said the woman was held hostage, but he would not comment on whether a weapon was involved. The arrested man will appear in the District Court at Dunedin today. The name of the dead man has not been released.
