Miss C. E. Robinson

A Christchurch woman who received the M.B.E. for a long and acknowledged career in education, Miss Christobel Elizabeth Robinson, died yesterday. She was 90.

Miss Robinson died at the Cashmere View Hospital. She was awarded the M.B.E. in 1964 for services to education.

She was appointed the first vocational guidance officer for girls while careers adviser at the

Christchurch Technical College. She was also well known for her work for the Canterbury Sheltered Workshops' Association. She became secretary of that organisation, and played a large role in its formation.

Her family said last evening that she continued to visit the sheltered workshop until well into her 80s.

“She kept in touch with the workshop and she went to visit and talk to

the pupils every week until she was 86,” said Mr Graham Robinson, a nephew. Miss Robinson was born in Christchurch. She lived in Riccarton most of her life.. ,

She graduated from the then Canterbury University College with honours in English and French and taught those subjects at Nelson Girls’ College for four years and at the Christchurch Technical ColMge for 20 years.
