Cruelty to animals
Sir, —The Queen, who is patron of the R.S.P.C.A. in Britain and head of the Church of England, would nevertheless approve officially our GovernorGeneral taking part in the pigclubbing ceremony. Her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, bludgeoned a pig to death in a similar ceremony when he visited Malekula in 1974. Sir Paul Reeves as the Queen’s representative and Governor-General of New Zealand, understands and accepts his duty. — Yours, etc.,
V. JOYCE. May 20, 1988.
