Mask youth put in care

A youth, who purchased a rubber mask to use as a disguise when he held-up a service station, was sentenced to a six months community-care programme at Dorset House, a residential institution for those with personality problems. He appeared before Mr Justice Tipping in the High Court yesterday. Jayd Edwin Paul Wynn, aged 19, unemployed, had pleaded guilty to the attempted aggravated robbery of the Sydenham Service Station, at the corner of Colombo and Hutchison Street, on March 3.

Wynn originally appeared before Mr Justice Hardie Boys and was remanded until yesterday for an assessment to see if he was suitable for the Dorset House programme. In preparation for the hold-up, Wynn purchased the rubber pig mask, an air pistol and pellets and painted his arms black. He was seen lurking in a car sales-yard keeping observation on the service station and the police were informed. Mr Stan Barker appeared for Wynn, and Mrs Bridget Read for the Crown.
