Shooter’s rare double

Graham Marshall (Malvern) completed aa rare double on Saturday by winning both the Canterbury champion of champions fullbore rifle shoot and the Canterbury spring championship meeting, hosted at the Malvern Full-bore Rifle Club. The win makes Marshall a strong contender for inclusion in the Canterbury full-bore shooting team to travel to Blenheim for a tournament against Wellington, Marlborough and Nelson,

The competition was shot over 300, 500 and 600 yards in superb conditions. Geoff Smith (Malvern) was second to Marshall. Smith has just returned from international duties with the New Zealand team contesting the Palmer Trophy at the Australian bicentennial shooting competitions.

The B grade champion of champions contest was also won by a Malvern shooter, David Baxter. Results were;

A grade aggregate: G. Marshall, 148.8, 1; G. Smith, .146.12, 2; C. Thom, 144.11, 3; A. Adamson, 143.12, 4; J. Fleming, 142.15, 5. B grade aggregate: D. Baxter, 143.14, 1; B. Vann, 143.13, 2; R. Pilbrow, 140.14, 3; R. Taylor, 139.8, 4; H. Calder, 139.7, 5.
