Lead in Tress’ Cup shared
New Brighton and Linwood lead the field in “The Press” Cup for the best and fairest senior rugby team after Saturday’s matches in Christchurch. However, the scene might alter after the floodlit matches on Wednesday, in which Christchurch, Marist, Burnside and Suburbs will catch up on the field. Points gained on Saturday were: Shirley, sportsmanship 11, constructiveness 7, total 18; Sydenham, 11, 7, 18; Linwood, 10, 8,18; Suburbs, 12, 5, 17; Old Boys, 11, 6,17; New Brighton, 11, 6, 17; Burnside, 10, 7, 17; Belfast, 12, 4, 16; Christchurch, 11, 5, 16; Hornby, 10, 5,15; Marist, 8,6, 14; Lincoln College, 9,4, 13; Meriyale, 9,4, 13; University, 8,5, 13; Albion, 8,4, 12; Lyttelton, 6,6, 12. Total points to date are: Linwood, New Brighton 86, Hornby, University 83, Lincoln College, Old Boys 82, Shirley 77, Sydenham 76, Belfast 69, Albion 67, Suburbs 66, Marist 64, Lyttelton 61, 'Christchurch, Merivale 60, Burnside 59.
