Canterbury Regiment collection
Sir,—Members of our association must feel [hat efforts mpde to collect and preserve the (history of the Canterbury Regiment are now being well rewarded. Josie Laing sourced her yery interesting article on ANZAC (“Please don’t get shot, dehr," April 21, 1988), from material! in our regimental collection how held by the Canterbury Museum.
' ' i It seems an appropriate time tb make these comments: First, that this collection contains a wealth of material of social as well as military background on the province since its inception. Second, that much of this material would have been lost for ever were it not for the far-sighted efforts of the late John K. Collins and his dedicated helpers over the last 40 years or so. Third, that at last this collection has a permanent home and a caring guardianship for the future in the Canterbury Museum. The Canterbury’ history curator, Miss J. Queree, has impressed us with her work to date in preserving and cataloguing this material. The people who made this history have left something of their spirit and attitudes behind them. It is good to see younger generations recognising this through their interest in this collection. — Yours, etc.;
( M. S. RYAN,. President, .. ( Canterbury Regiment Association. 1 I • April 22, 1988.
