Police seek witnesses
Witnesses are sought to a hit-and-run accident at Prebbleton which has left a young woman, aged 16, in hospital. The accident happened about 11 p.m. last Thursday on Springs Road, near the junction with William Street.
Senior-Sergeant Geoff Kenna said the young woman i was crossing Springs Road when struck by the unlit vehicle, which had a noisy exhaust. No other description of the vehicle was available. The young! woman is reported!in a;comfortable condition in Hospital. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to get in touch with the Hornby police station. No complaint
A young woman admitted to hospital after an assault on Tuesday evening does not want the police involved. The victim, aged 17, was admitted to The Princess Margaret Hospital with moderate head injuries. She was discharged late yesterday morning. Detective ; Senior-Ser-geant Dave iWhitford said the police were not pursuing the matter further in light of the; fact her injuries were jnot serious. The young woman was taken to hospital by ambulance from a Woodham Road address. Minor vandalism The police are keeping a watch on the grounds of Cashmere High School because of ongoing offences causing a nuisance. Paint has been poured into the swimming pool and there ! have been instances of iminor vandalism. j
The caretaker has been assaulted trying to remove young people from the pool area outside school hours. Helmets stolen Five full-face crash helmets were stolen in a burglary of Whiting Motor-cycles, Ltd, in Manchester Street early yesterday. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Whitford said the offender used a glasscutter to enter through a window about 5.40 a.m. Vase claimed A woman whose cen-tral-city home was burgled in January has claimed a Japanese vase found among stolen property in a Christchurch flat on Monday. Detective Sergeant Peter Gardiner, of the New Brighton police, said the woman came forward after publicity in “The Press” yesterday. The vase, gilded in 24 carat gold, had been given to her for Christmas. She had no idea of its value. Her Madras Stret home was burgled on January 15. Detective Sergeant Gardiner said owners were still sought for a nest of Queen Anne tables, two varnished food barrels, and several ornaments. »' The occupant of the flat where the stolen articles were found faced five charges of burglary in the District court early this week. 1 He will be charged with the Madras Street burglary when he appears again next week. The vase will be returned to its owner after the court proceedings.
