Police pleased that user-pays dropped
PA Wellington’ The police are pleased the Government has de-' cided not to go ahead with charging for some police services, says Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Mooney. Mr Mooney, head of planning and resource management, said the department always had reservations about the userpay policy as it applied to the police.
"We could i see that there would be difficulties in some areas and certainly the legislation would have created a lot of extra work, for us,”, he said. - "As Geoffrey Palmer said, it would have damaged our relationship with the public.” J Mr Mooney said the loss of revenue as a result of the decision would 1 not affect the police.
