Member of Transport Board resigns
The chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board’s finance and administration committee, Mr Clyde Sugden, has resigned after seven years on the board. “The decision to submit my resignation has arisen solely because of a change in my pr fessional business situa- >n,” he said in a letter to the board’s chairman, Mr Patrick Neary. Mr Sugden’s employer has merged with the board's auditor, Price Waterhouse, and Mr Sugden felt the possibility of a conflict of interest “however remote” had to
be removed. “I wish I could have made a positive and formal contribution to the consideration of the board’s future role and structure,” he said. Mr Sugden’s resignation will take effect from March 31. Mr Neary expressed the board’s regret at the loss of his services. The vacancy would be filled by nomination and ballot, said the board’s general manager, Mr Max Taylor. Board members could nominate persons and if more than one name was put forward, board members would have a vote..
