Walker winner
PA Wellington The evergreen New Zealand track star, John Walker, achieved an encouraging victory over the best 800 metre exponents in the country at Newtown Park last evening but was thwarted in his bid for a fast time by blustery conditions. Walker’s time of 1:49.4 was still well short of the 1:45.8 he needs to attain nomination for the event at the Seoul Olympics, and immediately after the race he said that New Zealand qualifying standards were tougher than anywhere else in the world. He has already reached the
