Touch finale

The curtain will fall on the Christchurch touch season with the finals of three grades in this popular summer sport being played at Burnside Park this evening. Many of Canterbury’s 15 players chosen to represent New Zealand later this year in the first world touch championships will be in action this evening. They include three family pairs — Maureen and Mary Setu,

Steven and Graham Bachop, and Steven and Clayton Broomfield. In the semi-finals, starting at 6 p.m., Linwood plays Belfast and Hornby plays Sydenham in the men’s division; the women’s matchings are Linwood-New Brighton and Belfast-Marist; and in the social grade, Linwood-Belfast and Hornby-North Hagley. The finals will be played at 6.45 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
