Sydney campaign likely

By

DAVID MCCARTHY

The confirmation of a flight to Australia from Auckland on March 22 provides the doubt surrounding a Tancred Stakes-Sydney Cup double attempt by Sea Swift, according to her co-trainer, Peter Williams. “There is a possibility the flight will be cancelled and if that is the case our timetable could be in trouble,” said Williams, who will give Sea Swift her first strong workout since the DB Auckland Cup tomorrow. Williams plans to kick off the mare’s autumn campaign in the Higgins Mile at Awapuni on March 17. She will then travel by road to Auckland for the flight to Sydney for the $1 million Tancred Stakes and the Sydney Cup. Those are the only two races she will have before returning home but there is a possibility she will return to Australia for the Adelaide Cup later in the autumn. Williams says the mare is still not fully recovered from the leg injury she suffered in the Auckland Cup but “is 95 per cent right.” “She has put on over 100 kg since she was let up and I have never seen her look better. But she comes up fairly quickly and should have enough time to reach her peak,” Williams said. His wife, Dawn, will accompany Sea Swift on her Sydney mission.
