Labour policies

Sir, —User-paying, unemployment, and emigration are all on the increase. It seems to me that the fewer users we have in society (i.e„ the unemployed and those who emigrate) then the more the users we have left have to pay. Possibly very soon, “using” will be beyond a large proportion of the population. People will not be able to afford it. It seems that the very wealthy are favoured by user-pays. If it is only those with lots of money who end up using then, yes, they will also have to pay at some stage. I am sure that a society that wants to remain in balance cannot have only the affluent as users. I note that Mr Lange gained more through his latest taxation cuts. If I was still employed I would have had an extra $1 a week, according to published information. — Yours, etc. JOHN DEAN. February 20, 1988.
