Tribute to Chch architect

A stroll round Christchurch’s historic spots, a field day through Canterbury’s pioneers’ homes, a church service and a social function will be activities promoted to commemorate the anniversary of the death of a noted Christchurch architect. The week-end, from February 26-28, will be a tribute to John Hendry who was also an author and an activist in historic preservation. Mr Hendry died in February last year. The tribute is being organised by the John Hendry Memorial Heritage Trust, set up by the Canterbury regional committee of the Historic Places Trust. A memorial fund, of which the John Hendry Trust is appealing for contributions, will be used

towards the preservation of historic Canterbury buildings. Its patrons are the Mayoress of Christchurch, Lady Hay, and the Christ church architect, Sir Miles Warren. Mr Hendry’s widow, Mrs Ruth Hendry, is a member of the trust’s advisory panel.
