Cromie wins jet sprint
Mark Cromie (Whangarei) in a Hamilton 132, won the open class of the Charisma jet sprint on the Waimakariri River at the week-end after two days racing. Steady consistent driving was the key to Cromie’s success. His boat is powered by a 400 cu in. Chevrolet engine producing around 500 h.p. This was not the fastest boat in the field. Some competitors had machines of more than 700 h.p. Second place in the open class went to Bruce Street (Christchurch). Street won the event in 1985. Robert White (Bluff) was third. Open: M.
