War camp pensions paid out
PA Wellington Pensions totalling $224,000 have so far been paid to former prisoners of war interned in concentration camps during World War 11. The Department of Social Welfare’s national director for war pensions, Mr Ted Gallen, said 21 former servicemen had received amounts ranging from $6OOO to $13,000. The amount paid was based mainly on length of internment. Mr Gallen said some of the $250,000 fund established to compensate the veterans had been held back pending the investigation of two or three outstanding claims.
