Rockwell indictment issued
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles The U.S. Attorney’s Office said a federal grand jury has handed Rockwell International Corp a 25-count indictment accusing it of fraudulently billing the Government for work on the SUSI.2 billion NAVSTAR satellite navigation system.
“The essence of the charges is that Rockwell double-billed the Government for costs,” a special assistant U.S.' Attorney, Janet Goldstein, said. Rockwell disputed the charges, which it said were based on an internal investigation of its Satellite and Space Electronics Division in late 1985.
Rockwell is the U.S. Air Force’s prime contractor for NAVSTAR, a sophisticated navigation system designed to be used aboard ships, aircraft and ground command centres.
Also named in the indictment are two former Rockwell managers, Donald Carter and Robert Zavodnick, whom the company said it fired after its investigation.
