Congo Minbar qualifies for Speights Final
Special correspondent Dunedin Trainer, Robin Swain, and owner, Colin Baynes, qualified a second three-year-old for the final of the Speights series when Congo Minbar outfinished his stablemate, Debbie’s Boy, in a heat of the series at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Forbury Park on Saturday evening. Congo Minbar came from behind the pacemaker, Jasper Macfaber, to win by three parts of a length from Debbie’s Boy, which dropped 10 lengths off the pace early after starting from the second line. Debbie’s Boy moved three wide at the 700 metres and headed Jasper Macfaber at the 350 m. Debbie’s Boy won a
heat of the series at Forbury Park in November and Swain will drive him in the $15,000 final at Forbury Park on April 23. Henry Skinner, who drove Congo Minbar on Saturday, will be retained for the Gaines Minbar gelding which Baynes races with the Auckland Trotting Club president, Mr Noel Taylor.
